What CMT Means

Posted by amberhunt@heartandharastudio.com on April 5, 2010 at 1:59 PM

What does CMT mean? CMT means certified massage therapist, and in the state of MN there is no minimum amount of training required to hold this title. To date, I have about 1200 hours of certified massage training, which includes 600 hours of standard massage (relaxation/deep tissueand more) and 600 hours of additional training in aromatherapy, reflexology, hot stone and Thai Yoga massage. A trained massage professional is able to assess and apply the skills of their training combined with the gifts of their personality and touch to create a truly therapeutic session that enables the client to begin their healing process. Extensive training enables the therapist to know the scope of practice in their field, to ensure clientele safety by not using techniques that could negatively effect medication or existing conditions, and how to establish healthy ethical boundaries all while creating a nurturing environment for initating healing and wholeness. When you go to get a massage- as a client you should ask what their educational background is and how many hours of training they have as a professional. Most massage schools in MN now offer 500+hours of certified massage training, a big step towards establishing a higher standard of quality. At the Studio, all therapists are well trained professionals dedicated to the client's improvement through education and therapeutic touch. We know that healing begins within, that we are only part of the journey, and that for lasting benefit education is a must. As therapists we continue to expand our skill base by taking additional training and specializing in what we enjoy and know well. What we offer comes from beyond just our hands and hearts, as we adhere to professional guidelines creating a high standard of care and trust. We honor you and seek to provide the best in our industry. So, take time to ask questions, seek quality trained professionals as well continue to take better care of yourself by eating well, exercising, and living a vibrant life. Namaste- Amber (owner and therapist)
